Green Gables closes for the season on 31 October

The last regular day at Green Gables Heritage Place this year is 31 October. After that the house opens by appointment for one more month, then goes quiet until spring.

Parks Canada runs Green Gables as a seasonal site. The regular season is short and fixed: May to October, every day, nine to five. Once it ends, the doors do not simply lock. For the month of November you can still get in, as long as you ask first and accept a different fee.

This post covers the closing date, how the appointment visits work, what is still worth doing on the north shore once the summer businesses shut, and what has (and has not) been announced for next year.

The quick answer

Green Gables Heritage Place is open daily from 9am to 5pm until 31 October 2026. From 1 to 30 November it opens by special appointment only: email [email protected], and expect heritage presentation fees rather than the normal ticket. Parks Canada has not published 2027 dates yet. The regular season has run 1 May to 31 October, so check the official hours page in spring.

When does Green Gables close for the 2026 season?

Saturday 31 October 2026 is the last day of the regular season. Hours are 9am to 5pm daily until then.

The official Parks Canada hours page lists the 2026 season as 1 May to 31 October, open 9am to 5pm daily. It also lists two appointment-only windows on either side: 15 to 30 April, and 1 to 30 November. Nothing else is scheduled, which means the site has no public opening from December through mid April.

The last week of October is a fine time to go. The summer crowds are long gone and the house is furnished exactly as in July. What you lose are the extras: guided tours, ceilidhs and Anne's appearances run daily in July and August only. Our tickets and hours guide has the full picture for a regular-season visit.

Can you visit Green Gables in November?

Yes, by special appointment from 1 to 30 November. Email [email protected] to book; heritage presentation fees apply.

Parks Canada's wording is short: open by special appointment, "To book an appointment, please email [email protected]", and "Heritage presentation fees apply." Write early, give a couple of possible dates, and say how many people are coming. An appointment visit depends on staff being available, so treat a reply as the booking, not your email.

What will it cost? The Green Gables fee list has an off-season daily admission (C$5.00 adult, C$4.25 senior, youth free) and a separate block of heritage presentation programs. Several of those are marked for the off season. Which one applies to your group is for Parks Canada to confirm when they answer, so ask for the price in writing.

Do Green Gables tours from Charlottetown still run after the season?

Tours that go inside the house depend on the site being open, so plan a guided visit for 31 October at the latest.

The half-day tours on this site are built around a stop at Green Gables. Once the regular season ends, that stop cannot happen as a normal walk-in visit. Some listings may still show later dates for the scenery and the coast, but do not assume the house is part of it. Check the listing and ask the operator before you book anything in November.

For the last days of the season, the Green Gables shore tour is the one we would pick: its listing puts entry to Green Gables in the price, plus a scenic national park drive. Cruise passengers on the late October calls can compare it with the other options in our guide to tours from Charlottetown.

What is open around Cavendish in late autumn and winter?

The national park stays open but its facilities close from mid October to mid May. Charlottetown carries the season from late November with its Christmas festival.

Cavendish is a summer town at heart, and Tourism PEI's own ambassadors say some businesses in the area "slowly come to a close in the fall". Prince Edward Island National Park does not close, but according to Parks Canada "visitor services and facilities in the park are closed between mid-October and mid-May." Washrooms and warm-up shelters stay shut, ski trails are not groomed, and emergency services are limited. Parks Canada keeps plowing the Gulf Shore Parkway between Cavendish and North Rustico, so a winter drive along the dunes is possible.

For things to do, head to the capital. Tourism PEI lists the Charlottetown Christmas Festival from 20 November 2026 to 1 January 2027, and the Victorian Christmas Market on Queen Street from 27 to 29 November. An Ask an Islander answer on off-season trips also points to Valley Pearl Oysters, which opens year-round, and weekend live music in Charlottetown pubs.

In past years Parks Canada has run a holiday event called A Green Gables Christmas, with ticketed visits to the decorated house. No details for this winter were on the page when we checked. If it matters to your trip, keep an eye on it.

When does Green Gables reopen in 2027?

Parks Canada has not published 2027 dates. The regular season has run 1 May to 31 October, so check the official hours page in spring.

There is no 2027 announcement yet, and we will not guess one. What we can say: the 2026 season ran 1 May to 31 October with appointment windows in late April and November, and that has been the regular pattern. Parks Canada usually updates the hours page before the season starts, so look again in March or April.

Fees are worth checking at the same time. The 2026 list charges C$10.00 per adult from 1 July to Labour Day and C$8.25 in the shoulder months, with youth free. Whether a free-admission pass returns is a separate question, covered in our Canada Strong Pass post.

Is it worth visiting PEI in the off season for Anne?

For the house itself, no: book a regular-season day instead. For quiet beaches, Charlottetown at Christmas and low prices, it can be.

Be honest about what you want. If Green Gables is the point of the trip, come between May and October, ideally in June, September or October when the house is calm. If you are on the island anyway in November, an appointment visit is a rare chance to see the rooms with almost nobody around, and worth the email.

The other Anne sites are seasonal too. Tourism PEI lists the Anne of Green Gables Museum at Park Corner and the L.M. Montgomery Birthplace as closed by mid October. Our best time to visit PEI guide weighs the months against each other.
