Green Gables Heritage Place is run by Parks Canada, so admission is a standard national historic site fee, paid in Canadian dollars. Adults pay C$10.00 in July and August and C$8.25 in the shoulder months. Anyone 17 or under gets in free.

All figures below come from Parks Canada's fee page and hours page, checked in October 2026. The 2026 season ends on 31 October.

The quick answer

Adults pay C$10.00 from 1 July to Labour Day and C$8.25 in May, June, September and October; seniors pay C$8.50 or C$6.75; youth 17 and under are free. The site is open 9 am to 5 pm daily from 1 May to 31 October, and by appointment from 15 to 30 April and in November. Allow about two hours, and arrive before 11 am in July and August.

How much does it cost to visit Green Gables in 2026?

C$10.00 for adults in peak season and C$8.25 in the shoulder season. Seniors pay less, and youth 17 and under are free.

Parks Canada splits the year into three fee periods. Labour Day fell on 7 September in 2026.

PeriodAdult (18-64)Senior (65+)Youth (17 and under)
1 July to Labour DayC$10.00C$8.50Free
1 May to 30 June, and Labour Day to 31 OctoberC$8.25C$6.75Free
1 November to 30 April (by appointment)C$5.00C$4.25Free

Commercial groups pay C$8.50 per person in peak season and C$6.75 in the shoulder months. A Parks Canada Discovery Pass covers it too: C$83.50 for an adult or C$167.50 for a family or group of up to seven in one vehicle. It only pays off if you visit several Parks Canada places; PEI National Park, for example, charges its own day fee.

Was Green Gables free in 2026?

Yes, from 19 June to 7 September 2026, under the federal Canada Strong Pass. That offer has ended, so regular fees apply now.

The Canada Strong Pass gave free admission to all visitors at Parks Canada national historic sites during regular hours. No ticket or pass was needed at the gate.

Free entry brought the crowds. In summer 2025, the first year of the offer, visits were up about 20% on 2024, and the busiest day saw nearly 3,000 people, CBC reported. Parks Canada warned of "very high visitation" again in 2026. More in our Canada Strong Pass post.

Green Gables entry and a national park drive are in the listing's price, on a four-hour tour from Charlottetown.

When is Green Gables open?

Daily from 9 am to 5 pm, 1 May to 31 October 2026. From 15 to 30 April and 1 to 30 November it opens by appointment only.

To book an off-season visit, email [email protected]. Parks Canada says heritage presentation fees apply to those visits, and the November rates are lower. Outside these windows the site lists no visiting hours, so do not plan a December drop-in.

Daily guided tours, musical ceilidhs and appearances by Anne run in July and August only. In May, June, September and October you get the house and grounds without the programs, at the lower fee and with far fewer people. For a season-end visit, see the 2026 season-end post.

How long do you need at Green Gables?

Parks Canada gives no official figure. For the house, barn, exhibits and both trails, we would allow about two hours; an hour covers the house and barn at a brisk pace.

Add up the parts and decide what you care about:

  • The house: two floors of small furnished rooms. Small rooms, so midday in summer is slow going.
  • The barn, granary and woodshed: reconstructed, with a dress-up and photo station.
  • The visitor centre: 14 exhibits on Montgomery, her scrapbooks, adaptations and the Mi'kmaq of Epekwitk.
  • Two trails: Haunted Wood (0.9 km loop) and Balsam Hollow with Lovers Lane (0.8 km), both easy, both with stairs.
  • Extras: the Cordial Café, the gift shop and, in summer, a scheduled program.

Book readers who want everything should allow two and a half hours. If you come on a half-day tour, ask how long the stop is before you book.

When is Green Gables busiest?

Between 11 am and 3 pm in July and August. Come at 9 am or after 3 pm, or visit in the shoulder season.

That window is Parks Canada's own warning, not a guess. The house is small, and a full car park means a slow shuffle from room to room. Doors open at 9, and the first hour is the calmest. The last two hours before 5 pm are quieter too.

September and October are our pick for a calm visit. The fee drops to C$8.25, the trees turn, and the summer crowds are gone. You miss the costumed programs. Groups of more than 25 are asked to contact the site in advance to get a good time slot.

Is Green Gables wheelchair accessible?

Partly. The ground floor of the house and the visitor centre are accessible, but the upstairs rooms and both trails involve stairs.

Tourism PEI lists the site as partially accessible. The 2019 redevelopment made the first floor of the house accessible and built the new visitor centre, and the exhibit hall has ramps. Anne's room, Marilla's room and the rest of the upper floor are up a staircase.

The Haunted Wood Trail is packed gravel with roots and a couple of staircases. Balsam Hollow has a large stairway near the end. Someone using a wheelchair can still see the kitchen, parlour and Matthew's room, the barn and the exhibits. For anything specific, call the site at 1-902-963-7874 before you go.

What is there to do at Green Gables besides the house?

Dress up in Victorian clothes in the barn, walk Lovers Lane, go through the exhibits, and in summer catch a ceilidh or a guided tour.

  • The barn: exhibits called the Friendship Vow and the Card Garden, plus a dress-up and photo station.
  • Summer programs: daily guided tours, musical ceilidhs and appearances by Anne in July and August, in English and French.
  • For kids: the Parks Canada Xplorers booklet for ages 6 to 11, and geocaching.
  • Food and shopping: the Cordial Café for coffee, baking and Island-made ice cream, and a gift shop.
  • The Cavendish Home site: reached on the Haunted Wood Trail, with its own fee. A combined pass is sold at the Green Gables visitor centre.

The Parks Canada App has a self-guided tour if you come outside program hours.

Entry to Green Gables is included on the listing, so the ticket line is the operator's problem, not yours.

Is Green Gables worth visiting?

Yes if you know the book or any adaptation. Even if you don't, C$10 or less buys a good hour or two in a pretty corner of the north shore.

For Anne fans it is the main event of a PEI trip. The rooms match the novel closely, and Lovers Lane is the path that appears in the novel. For everyone else, it is a well-kept farm museum with short woodland walks, in the same village as Cavendish Beach.

Two things can spoil it: a midday July visit, and mixing it up with the other Anne sites. Silver Bush at Park Corner is a different house altogether. See Green Gables vs the Anne museum before you set the GPS, and the tours from Charlottetown if you are not driving.
