Charlottetown Historic Architecture Walk

About this experience

The listing names four landmarks and "many other historical buildings and houses" on a two-hour guided walk, at $21 per person. It's the lowest price on this site, and Charlottetown's centre is compact enough to see a lot in two hours.

The four named stops each have a story. St. Dunstan's Basilica is a twin-towered High Victorian Gothic church built between 1896 and 1907, with an interior redesigned after a fire in 1913; it became a basilica in 1929 and a national historic site in 1990. All Souls' Chapel, built in 1888 beside St. Peter's Cathedral, was designed by William Critchlow Harris and holds 18 paintings by his brother Robert Harris. Province House hosted the 1864 Charlottetown Conference that led to Confederation, and the Confederation Centre of the Arts opened nearby in 1964 as a national memorial for its centenary.

One caveat. Province House has been closed for a long conservation project since 2015, and Parks Canada had not posted a reopening date when we checked, so plan on seeing it from outside. The listing summary doesn't say whether the walk goes inside any building, or where it meets. It also needs booking at least 10 hours ahead.
