The small-group Green Gables tour from Charlottetown

A four-hour small-group loop from Charlottetown to the Green Gables house, a seaside village, cliff outlooks and north shore lighthouses. Pick it if you want the Anne house plus a broad first look at the island in one morning or afternoon, without driving.

Small-Group PEI Tour with Green Gables

About this experience

This is the tour most people book. The listing promises a small group, pickup, and four stops of a sort: the home of Anne of Green Gables, a seaside village, cliff outlooks and lighthouses along the way. That's a lot of ground for four hours. Cavendish sits about 40 km from Charlottetown, so a fair share of the morning is the drive itself, through red-soil farmland.

The house is the Macneill farmhouse in Cavendish, run by Parks Canada as Green Gables Heritage Place. It inspired the Cuthberts' home in the novel, but L.M. Montgomery never lived there: she grew up about 1 km away with her grandparents and later called Green Gables "practically imaginary". Inside, the rooms are furnished to the book, Anne's east gable room included, and the visitor centre has 14 exhibits on Montgomery and her readers. The cliffs and lighthouses belong to the north shore, much of it inside PEI National Park, with its red cliffs, dunes and sandy beaches.

Two caveats. The listing doesn't name the village, the outlooks or the lighthouses, and the listing summary doesn't show whether Green Gables admission is in the price, so check the inclusions on the listing before you book. At the gate it is C$10.00 for adults in July and August and C$8.25 in May, June, September and October, with youth free (Parks Canada). The second caveat is time: with four stops in four hours, nobody gets long anywhere. If the house is the whole point, the express tour spends less effort on the extras.

  • The Green Gables farmhouse, furnished to the novel, with Anne's gable room upstairs
  • A seaside village, cliff outlooks and lighthouses on the same half day
  • Small group, with pickup available
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and bookable as late as 2 hours ahead
  • North shore scenery around PEI National Park's red cliffs and dunes

How the day runs

  1. StartPickup in Charlottetown

The listing says pickup is available. Check the exact pickup options when you book, especially if you're coming off a cruise ship.

  2. On the wayOut across the farmland

About 40 km of rolling red-soil fields, white farmhouses and church steeples between Charlottetown and Cavendish on the north shore.

  3. At Green GablesThe house, barn and trails

The house is furnished to the novel and the Victorian period, with Matthew's room downstairs and Anne's east gable upstairs. The reconstructed barn has dress-up clothes, and Lovers Lane and the Haunted Wood trails start from the grounds.

  4. Along the shoreVillage, cliffs and lighthouses

The listing names a seaside village, cliff outlooks and lighthouses without saying which ones. The north shore has all three in short drives of each other.

  5. Back in townReturn to Charlottetown

Four hours in total, which leaves the rest of the day for Charlottetown.

Who it suits

Book it if

  • You don't have a car and want Green Gables plus a sample of the north shore
  • It's your first time on PEI and you want a broad half day rather than one stop
  • You decide late: the listing allows booking up to 2 hours ahead
  • You like a guide filling in the island's story on the drive

Skip it if

  • You have a car: admission is C$10.00 at most, and Cavendish is about 40 km away
  • You want hours inside the house and exhibits: try the private tour with tickets
  • You want the lowest per-person price with entry covered: the shore tour says entry is included
  • You're visiting after 31 October, when Green Gables closes for the season

Tips before you book

  • Green Gables is open 1 May to 31 October, 9am to 5pm. July and August are busiest between 11am and 3pm, so a morning departure has the edge.
  • Youth get in free, and in 2026 everyone got in free from 19 June to 7 September with the Canada Strong Pass. Factor that in when you weigh the price.
  • The Haunted Wood trail has roots and a couple of staircases, and Lovers Lane has a big stairway near the end. Wear proper shoes.
  • Cruise passengers: confirm the pickup point and the return time against your all-aboard time before you book.
  • Read whether Green Gables is real before you go. Knowing the house was a Macneill family farm makes the visit better, not worse.

Frequently asked questions

Does the small-group Green Gables tour include admission?

The listing summary doesn't say, so check the inclusions on GetYourGuide before you book. If it isn't included, Parks Canada charges C$10.00 per adult from 1 July to Labour Day and C$8.25 in May, June, September and October. Youth are free.

Is there hotel pickup?

The listing marks pickup as available. Where exactly it picks up isn't on the listing summary, so confirm your hotel or meeting point at checkout.

Which village and lighthouses does it visit?

The listing describes "a seaside village", cliff outlooks and "beautiful lighthouses" without naming them. Ask the operator after booking if a particular stop matters to you.

Did Anne of Green Gables really live in this house?

No. Anne is fictional. The house belonged to David Jr. and Margaret Macneill, cousins of Montgomery's grandfather, and inspired the Cuthberts' farm. Montgomery lived about 1 km away and wrote the novel there.
